Description
CareVis VariO Single-Use Elastomeric Infusion Pump – 275 ml
S&S Med Co., Ltd. (Republic of Korea) manufactures the CareVis VariO, a single-use, portable elastomeric infusion pump that delivers medication continuously without batteries, mains power or a drip stand. Because a multi-rate module sits at the heart of the device, the clinician can select any of seven basal flow rates, plus a full stop position, using a removable key. In addition, a clear audible click confirms every rate change, so staff always know which setting the pump holds. As a result, one device covers a wide range of pain-therapy and regional-anaesthesia protocols, and you no longer need a separate fixed-rate pump for every rate.

Inside the transparent, break-proof housing sits an axially guided silicone balloon. While the balloon contracts, it pushes the filled solution through a temperature-calibrated flow restrictor at a steady rate. Therefore the patient stays mobile, and clinicians can treat them on an outpatient or ward basis instead of tethering them to an electronic pump.
Selectable Flow Rates – choose your variant above
- 1–7 ml/hr (REF VL17): 0 – 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6 – 7 ml/hr, and therefore approximately 39 to 275 hours of delivery at 275 ml nominal volume.
- 2–14 ml/hr (REF VL214): 0 – 2 – 4 – 6 – 8 – 10 – 12 – 14 ml/hr, and therefore approximately 20 to 138 hours of delivery at 275 ml nominal volume.
These run times simply divide 275 ml by the selected rate, so treat them as approximate. Of course, fill volume, drug viscosity and temperature all shift the actual duration at the bedside.

Key Features
- Seven selectable basal rates plus stop – a detachable key sets the rate, and in addition a clear audible click confirms each change.
- Flow accuracy of ±10% – the pump meets the tolerance that ISO 28620:2020 sets for adjustable-rate infusion devices.
- Dual filtration – a particle-retention membrane traps particles, while a 0.2 µm bacteria-tight air-vent membrane guards against air embolism.
- Break-proof outer housing – a hard shell shields the balloon against external pressure and screens UV light, which matters whenever you infuse light-sensitive drugs.
- Kink-resistant infusion line – the DEHP-free line keeps flowing under pressure and therefore prevents occlusion of drug delivery.
- Scaled pump body with indicator – staff confirm the filling volume at a glance and then monitor infusion progress throughout the run.
- Removable slide clamp – the clinician starts and stops the infusion directly, without touching the rate module.
- Safety filling port – a Luer-lock inlet feeds the balloon directly through a one-way check valve, so the drug dilutes evenly from the first millilitre.
- Connector options – choose either a Luer-Lock connector with air-vent blue end cap or a NaX neuraxial connector that conforms to ISO 80369-6.

Inside the Pump – Component Overview
Every component earns its place in the flow path. First, the filling port and the independent exit point sit apart from each other, so the drug mixes homogeneously inside the balloon. Next, the flow restrictor stabilises output before the solution reaches the micro IV filter. Finally, the slide clamp and the distal Luer-lock connector give the clinician control at the patient end of the line.

Filling Volumes and Flow Accuracy
Fill the 275 ml pump anywhere between 165 ml and 310 ml. However, never underfill below 60% of the nominal volume, because the balloon loses tension and the rate then drifts. Residual volume stays at just 1 ml, so almost the whole prepared dose reaches the patient. In the manufacturer’s flow-rate study at 23 °C, 56 kPa and 0.9% NaCl solution, delivery settled onto the nominal line within the first few hours and then held steady across a 48-hour run.

Clinical Applications
- Systemic and regional post-operative pain management
- Regional anaesthesia, including plexus and perineural nerve blocks
- Epidural analgesia
- Wound infiltration anaesthesia
- Continuous analgesic, antibiotic and hydration therapy

Our Stock Freshness Commitment
We supply only unexpired stock with a long remaining shelf life. In addition, we hold every carton exactly as the manufacturer specifies, between 4 °C and 40 °C, dry and away from direct sunlight, until it ships. If your tender or hospital supply contract demands a particular minimum shelf life, simply tell us before you order, and we will confirm the batch expiry to you in writing before we ship.
Handling Notes
If the filled pump has spent time in a refrigerator, first leave it at room temperature for 8 to 18 hours before you start the infusion. Otherwise the flow restrictor never reaches its calibrated working temperature, and the delivery rate runs low.
Contraindications
Never use the CareVis VariO for life-sustaining medication, since the device carries no alarm function. Likewise, avoid high-viscosity solutions, blood products, proteins, lipids, and lipophilic drugs that contain Cremophor. Finally, treat every pump as strictly single-use, and never reuse or re-sterilise it.
For qualified healthcare professionals only. Always read the manufacturer’s Instructions for Use before clinical use.
